How do I check a Connecticut nursing home's inspection record?

Every Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home is inspected by the state survey agency, and results are published by CMS. Each facility page on Nana's List links to its CMS record, including the health-inspection rating and date.

What do the Medicare star ratings mean?

CMS rates nursing homes from 1 to 5 stars overall, based on health inspections, staffing and quality measures. We show these ratings exactly as CMS publishes them and never blend them with family reviews.

Does Medicare pay for a nursing home?

Medicare can cover short-term skilled nursing or rehab after a qualifying hospital stay: up to 100 days per benefit period, with the first 20 days fully covered. It does not pay for long-term custodial care, which is usually paid privately, through long-term care insurance, or by Medicaid for people who qualify.

Are prices and openings listed?

Not yet for most facilities. Public CMS data doesn't include prices or openings, so call the facility to confirm. Communities that claim their listing can add pricing and availability.
